Photo Planning Double Page Spread with Original Photography

On this I will have 2 images. One that is full page length and one that is small to put on the same page as the article. The main image will be this one:

I will edit out the background for this image and make it a free pull-out poster for my readers. this is like the double- page spread I annotated of Cher Lloyd.
This will be a small image that will be with the article and not on the other page.

Photo Planning Contents Page with Original Photography

For this page I will have a screenshot of my front cover to add to the "on the front cover" section of my magazine. I will also have another large image of my model Alex and make him the main focus of my contents page. Here is the image I will use:

I have decided against using more images in order to stick to the more simple theme of my magazine.

Photo Planning Front Cover with Original Photography

I have decided to change my original view of the magazine to make it more simple as I am targeting my magazine at a very young audience. Here are the images I hope to be using:
This will be my main image/cover image and will be the main focus of the front cover.

This will be a small photo in the corner used to promote posters in the magazine along with the next image.

Photo Shoot 2

Last week on Thursday I held my second photo shoot for my music magazine. I took photos of my model Freya who I chose to replace Harriet as my cover model. I took loads of photos however, we realised after looking at them closely they appeared to be quite fuzzy. Here are some examples:

All of these images are fuzzy and are not suitable for my magazine. Also the lighting is wrong and I feel the outfit needs to be more colourful in order to appeal to my target audience.
In response to these images being fuzzy and the outfit and lighting been wrong I decided to retake my photos. This time my model and I added more lighting in the room and reconsidered the outfit with more detail and thinking more about the audience. Here are some examples:

This was one of my favourite images from the shoot however, I cant use it as it is slightly too blurry for my magazine so therefore would not make it look professional. Here are some more photos I cant use due to blurriness or wrong pose/positioning:

In this shoot there are some definite improvements in the lighting and costume and here are some examples of ones that I will hopefully be using in my magazine:
All these images are of good quality and will be very useful for my magazine

Magazine Models

This week in Media, I have been taking photos of my models. During these photo shoots I have been considering whether it will be realistic to have as many models for my magazine as I had originally planned. I had planned to have about 5 or 6 models for my magazine, however, now I feel my magazine may be better off without as many models so am only planning to have 3. I have also changed one of my models. I feel this decision will improve the quality of my magazine and will allow me to make the other photos I had taken more professional.

Tagline:
Cover lines and article titles on the contents page. Headlines:

For all of my text I will be using the normal Calibri (Body) font that is featured on all computers.

Text fonts

For the text fonts I will be using one of the fonts that are featured on every computer. I will be using the font Calibri (Body).

Font Ideas- Headlines on pages.

For these fonts I am going to use the same font that I am using for  my cover lines so that it fits in all together more and unites the magazine.

Font Idea changes

I have changed my mind about the cover line and tagline fonts. I feel that the fonts would be best suited to their role is they swapped. These will all be shown in my final font ideas post.

Font Ideas- Tagline

I will also need a separate font for my tagline. My tagline will be: "The UKs favourite Pop Magazine!". Again I used the website dafont to find a font. To test these fonts I will type in the word "favourite".
Font: Janda Manatee. I like this font however I don't feel it is suitable for my target audience.
Font: Running Hipster. I like this font as it is immature enough for my audience however I don't feel it fits in with my other fonts as much. On the other hand my tagline will be small and I feel that put together they could look good.
Font: Sunshine International. I feel that this font may be the most appropriate for my target audience. I feel it will suit my other fonts best as well.

I have chosen the font Running Hipster as I feel that it is probably the most appropriate for my target audience.

Photo Shoot 1

Today I managed to hold my first photo shoot in which I was meant to be taking photos of my models Alex and Harriet. Unfortunately Harriet is ill so I will either reschedule her shoot or find another model as I don't know how long she will be off for. On the other hand, my photo shoot with Alex was a success. We took some photos outside against a brick wall background and managed to get different angled shots with different levels of zoom. Also Alex managed to supply different tops to show a variety in his attire and in the pictures. I plan on editing the images slightly to improve the lighting and also to improve the image itself. I will crop all the images to get rid of any unnecessary space on the image. On this post I will add some of the images I have taken and will talk through them and talk about the positives and negatives. In this shoot I took a total of 21 images.
I took this photo at the start of the shoot. I did this to make sure that the conditions were ok for me to take photos on. This is a picture of the background I have used in all the photos and I took an image to assess the lighting of the area of which I was taking the photo of and to make I would be able to take decent photos on the camera for my magazine.
This is a good photo to use on my magazine as the quality is quite professional. In my opinion the photo isn't blurry and also the bricks are perfectly lined up with my model. The outfit the model is wearing goes well together and contrasts with the background allowing the model to stand out. I will hopefully be using this photo on my magazine front cover or my contents page.
I feel that I will be less likely to use this photo in my magazine as it is blurry and will not be suitable as it will make my production look less professional.
This photo, like the first one that contained a model, is a high quality photo that isn't blurry so will be suitable for my magazine. The outfit is different to what the model is wearing in the other photos so if I wanted to use more than one image of this model I will be able to show some sort of variety.
In this photo the model is in the same pose as the last one, however I took this photo at a slight angle to add effect. I may use this one instead to show a variety of angle. However, this image is slightly more blurry than the other images so I may use another angled image.
I like this photo as it is clear and not blurry but also the model is in a relaxed, casual pose. The camera is at a slight angle as well, which creates and effect.

Font Ideas- Coverlines

For my magazine I need to choose another font for my cover lines. To experiment with the fonts I will write the word "interview". To find a font I used dafont.
Font: Cheeky Rabbit. This is the first font that caught my eye. Even though it may seem childish I may use this font as I am making my magazine for a young audience and also the font stands out.
Font: China cat. This font stands out a lot and is suitable for a young audience.
Font: Neon 80s. I like this font as it stands out however I don't feel that it is entirely suitable for my audience.

I think I will use the font Cheeky Rabbit for my cover lines and the article titles on my contents page as I feel it is the most suitable for my target audience.

Font Ideas- Masthead

Today, I have been looking at the different types of fonts I can use to put as my masthead. I have used the website dafont.com and have types in my chosen masthead: POP!. All of these fonts will be changed so that the colour is white and I can place the text into a pink oval shaped bubble.

Here are a few of the suggestions I have found. All of the fonts I have chosen are quite rounded and bubbly which is appealing to my young target audience. However some of them have a few problems.
Font: Nickname. This font is nice and bubbly however I feel it may be a bit too rigid and thin.
Font: Inimitable original. I prefer this font to the first as it is thicker and broader and is more rounded and bubbly.
Font: Jelly crazies. I thought this font was almost perfect. It is bubbly and rounded and perfect for my target audience. However, it does not have an exclamation mark so I would have to change my masthead slightly to adapt to the font
Font: Bubble-gum. I feel that so far this is the best font as it is very rounded and it is also quite broad and thick.
Font: Soft Marshmallow. This is a very nice font however I feel that the text is too thin for how I imagine the masthead to look.

In conclusion, I have chosen to use the font- Bubble Gum. I have chosen this font as it is the most rounded font and it is also very thick.

Photo Shoot Issues 2.

I had scheduled a second photo shoot for my magazine this morning, however, again, like yesterday it was raining. It rained before I came into college so when it came to take the photos outside it was too wet and it would have potentially ruined the shot. Here is a screenshot of the weather forecast I found yesterday for today on the BBC weather website:

Photo shoot issues.

Today I had scheduled a photo shoot with two of my models which I had planned to be taken outside.
However, today has turned out to be very wet and rainy therefore is not suitable for my magazine photo shoot. I have had to cancel this photo shoot and am currently in the process of rescheduling it for another date. I made the decision to cancel my photo shoot after reviewing the weather forecast for the remainder of the day. Here is a screenshot from the BBC Weather website of todays forecast:

Tomorrow I also have a photo shoot outside. So I have decided to study the weather forecast for tomorrow to see if there is any improvements. There is a chance of rain tomorrow; however, hopefully it wont rain and I will be able to take me photos. I will make my final decision on whether I will cancel my photo shoot tomorrow morning. Questionnaire Results

For my questionnaire I got 26 responses through Facebook and 1 response on paper. The majority of the responses were from people of the age range of 15-17  which is just above my target age group. The response on paper was from someone in the age group of 12-14. There were also a few responses from people older than 17.

I asked questions like what are your favourite pop artists and what are your favourite kinds of articles that are probably going to be the most useful in creating my magazine. First I will talk about the kinds of articles question.

The types of articles that have gained the most votes are interviews, problem pages, fashion advice and latest gossip, with latest gossip leading them all. All of these 4 types of articles are quite equal in the number of votes which is a sign that I need to include a lot of these types of articles to truly impress and catch the attention of my target audience. The type of article that got the least amount of votes by getting considerably less than the others are adverts. This shows that I should not include as many adverts in my magazine as they are less liked. The rest of the types of articles: informative arguments, competitions, free posters, charts, calendars of upcoming events and reviews: are all quite equally in the middle with the amount of votes reached. This connotes that there should be a reasonable amount of these types of articles featured in my magazine; however, not too many as they are not the most liked in the results.
The other question I wish to talk about is the question that asked about people favourite pop artists.

This question is useful as it helps me understand what types of artists I should feature in my magazine. Here is a tally of the results shown: (this will include the paper result as well)
Olly Murs: 1
Green Day: 1
Justin Bieber: 2
Taylor Swift: 2
Bruno Mars: 1
Adele: 2
Ed Sheeran: 2
Shawn Mendes: 1
Pink: 1
James Bay: 1
Meghan Trainer: 1
Little Mix: 2
Calvin Harris: 1
Katy Perry: 1
Ariana Grande:1
There was not an overall winner in the tallies but the artists with 2 votes, I will try and feature and I may also feature the artists with 1 vote. I will not have photos of these artists however as I feel I should make up my own artists as I am taking my own original photography. I will have articles about these artists on my contents page to show that I have acknowledged the wishes of people either in or just outside my target audience and have acted on the questionnaire.
I would like to talk about this question as the result I received surprised me a bit. I thought more people in my age group will have bought magazine regularly however according to these results , 81.81% of the people who took my survey either occasionally or never buy magazines. As someone who buys monthly magazines and buys magazine regularly this surprised me quitter a lot. However, I will act on the fact that 13.64%  do buy monthly magazines. In response to this I will create a monthly magazine.

Magazine Questionnaire

I have made a questionnaire using survey monkey- a survey website- to gather information and research on what my target audience would like to feature in my magazine and also to learn more about them. I chose to do my survey on survey monkey because it is a website that makes successful surveys and through this website I was able to share my survey on my own personal Facebook account for friends and family to fill out. This survey will help out with my market research as it will give me a better idea of who I am making my magazine for and what they will want to feature.
