Preliminary Evaluation

This is my finished product for my Preliminary Task. It is the front cover and contents page for a magazine that is exclusive to the 6th Form at my school.

First I will talk about the photography. All the photography on the product it my own original photography taken on my phone- except for the logo of my school, that was taken from Google images on the internet. I feel like the photography was of a decent quality considering they were taken with a smartphone camera. When I make my final production I will use a proper and more professional camera to ensure that my photography is of the best quality to improve the quality of my magazine as well. Also, another negative point about my photography is that the images were not planned. I didn't ask people to stand in specific position, I just asked them to make up a pose. For my final production, I will take a lot more consideration into the kind of photos I will take and who will be in them. I will also make sure they are is the right pose and will have better backgrounds/settings that compliment the image and the model and also has appropriate lighting to make the best effect. A final negative point about my photography is that none of it is edited. I decided against using a photo editing program like Photoshop to improve my images. I made this decision as I thought that it would show an obvious improvement in my photography when compared with my final product. I can also write more about how my photography has improved in my final evaluation. In response to this decision, I have concluded that I will definitely be using the program Photoshop to improve my photography when I create my final product. I find it quite difficult and quite a challenge taking my photos. I had to make sure we were in a position of good lighting and also I had to find cover models and models for my secondary images at very short notice. I think this will be slightly easier when I have to create my final magazine production as I will have a bit longer to plan my photography and who will be featuring in my images- the cover models and the models for the secondary and central images.

Much like I wasn't very adventurous with my photography, I also decided to make my text fonts and colours quite simple and plain. The colour white fitted with the background and the images used with my front cover and my contents page. I also used the default font for the text as when I make my real magazine I will show improvement as I will have put more thought into the font so it will look better.
In my next magazine I will make sure that I put a lot more thought into my production and will make it look more professional. Everything will be planned previously to production and I will research my genre to make my own magazine seem realistic and professional.
