I have had to position my main image to fit the page. I used the picture tool on quark to add my main photo to the sheet. I then had to make the image smaller to be able to fit it into the page and then positioned it to leave a gap in the top left hand corner which is where I plan on putting the masthead.
The next thing I decided to do was put in my masthead. The first thing I did for this was make a box. I then had to make it magenta. Then using my new bubble gum font I made my masthead. This is how it looks:
The next stop was to add a tagline. I originally wanted my tagline to be "The UK's favourite pop magazine". However, I changed my mind and decided to change it to "Your Favourite Pop Magazine". The use of the personal pronoun- "Your"- adds a direct mode of address. I have another direct mode of address in the cover image as the model is looking straight at the camera. I used my new font cheeky rabbit and added my tagline. I used the colour magenta to match the box in which holds my masthead. This is how it looks now:
The next thing I had to do was add my first cover line. I wanted to create my puff that advertised free posters. For this I had to create a box. I changed the colour of the box to magenta and this is now what it looks like (I hadn't moved it to where I want it to be yet):
I then decided to add some text in the box. I moved the box around a lot and decided where I might want it to go. I also decided to add my main cover line that anchors my main image. at this point I had not decided on colour or where it will be yet:
I decided to change the colour of my text to pink to link to the rest of my text and move it to an appropriate place on my front cover:
I then discovered I had not yet done the issue detail (date, issue, price). I also moved the box with the puff to become a pug in the top right hand corner of the page:
I then looked at my front cover to see the progress I had made so far and realised there may be too much pink. I then decided to play around with the colours to see which one will fit the best. I focused on oranges as there was some orange on the top of the model. This is how one of the shades of orange turned out:
I am not too keen on this outcome so I will have to experiment further with the colours for my text and the pug. I want to try to link it to my cover models outfit. These were some of the attempts of the colour and how I used Photoshop to get them.
I then found a colour I liked but had to change my photo to make the colour of the text perfectly match the orange on the shirt. I used Photoshop and came out with this:
I then had to trial and error with fonts to make sure that my front cover was perfect for my target audience. I used quark and Photoshop and made different fonts and boxes as I didn't think my font was suitable and had changed my mind.
After I had done this, I decided to make a start on my other cover lines. I decided to make the cover line/puff that promotes the free posters in the magazine. I decided to put it in a bubble like the one for mu pug but it will be a circle. Here is how it first looked:
I decided that the bubble was too big for my page and makes it stand out too much and takes the attention away from my main story. I made it smaller and then added the rest of my cover lines and my barcode to look like this:
After modifying everything for the last time this is how my front cover looks like as a finished product:
